En honor a todos los que teníamos mamás que nos rellenaban el clóset de bolsas de Poppys y a las siempre chic hermanas Tanner de Full House aquí les va el primero de dos posts dedicados a esa pieza a la que muchos le temen pero pocos se atreven: los overalls.

In honor of all of the people who had mothers who filled up our closets with bags from Poppys, not to mention the Tanner sisters from Full House here’s the first of two posts dedicated to that item that many fear but few dare to face: the overalls.  

Estas son en serio mis zapatillas favoritas ahorita mismo, los colores son lo máximo!

Guys these are srsly my fave kicks at the moment, I just adore the colors & they are freaking comfortable.

PROFILE: Cirque du Soleil's Melody Wood

Imagínense los 4 elementos – agua, fuego, aire y tierra – luchando entre ellos en un solo escenario, saltando de trampolín a trampolín mientras que un personaje,  Little Buddha vuela por los aires simbolizando el viaje del Este a el Oeste de Asia. Suena súper estimulante para la vista y para los sentidos - también para el oído ya que hay banda en vivo – pero centrémonos en lo visual.

El día de ayer a pesar del tranque descomunal que había en el área de Ancón pude llegar a tiempo a la práctica de Cirque du Soleil Dralion (Dralion es una fusión de Dragon, que simboliza el Este y Lion el Oeste), un show producido casi 100% en Montreal, Canadá y que hoy estrena en suelo panameño.

Siendo un mega fan de los espectáculos y de los musicales y de las artes dramáticas en general, era una obligación para mí conocer a Melody Wood, la Directora de Vestuario del show que ha estado recorriendo el mundo desde hace ya mucho tiempo.

Imagine the 4 elements – water, fire, air & earth – fighting while jumping & flying across the stage while a Little Buddha travels to become the forcé all in a show that captures the best of West & East Asia. Sound amazingly appealing to the eye.

Yesterday, in the middle of all the traffic that was caused by all the mishappenings in Panama I made it to the practice of Cirque du Soleil Dralion (Dralion is the mix of Dragon, which simbolizes the East & Lion, which simbolizes de West), a show almost 100% produced in Montreal, Canada & which its opening night is tonight here in Panama.

Being a huge fan of shows & spectacles it was a must for me to interview Melody Wood, the Director de Costume of the show.

1x3/3x1: Mariel

Una vez más me acerqué a la gente de Desigual para que me ayudaran con la segunda versión de 1x3/3x1 (si quieres ver el primer post click aquí ). Esta vez le pedí a una fans de la marca, mi amiga Mariel Spooner (@MarielGSpooner) para que nos mostrara la versatilidad de una pieza, en este caso una blusa que ya verán como utilizó.

Once again I approached the people at Desigual so they could help me with this second version of 1x3/3x1 (to check out the first version click here). In this occasion I asked a friend of mine & a real fan of Desigual, Mariel Spooner (@MarielGSpooner), to pick one piece of clothing & show us its versatility through 3 outfits.

Pen & Paper: Neons

Hace un tiempo atrás una canción surgió en la red que muchos odiaban y muchos les encantaba (como muchas otras cosas en la vida), la cantaba un artista coreano llamado PSY y no tardó para que Gangnam Style se cimentara como el éxito de la temporada, lo escuchábamos en la radio, en la tele, en el iPod, hasta comerciales de televisión en Panamá copiaban el ritmo y la lírica de la canción.

Tampoco tardó mucho para que los que por un tiempo disfrutamos de ella nos fucking hartáramos de la misma. Llegó un punto en el que Gangnam Style se convirtió más bien en Lárgate-De-Mi-Vida Style y en el que confieso querer apuñalarme el cerebro con un pica hielo cada vez que la escuchaba.

Así que en mi pobre intento de utilizar una figura literaria llamada “Analogía” para hacerme ver más catedrático y no aburrirlos en esta bella mañana (por mi casa el cielo esta gris como el pavimento) dirijo ahora su atención a los verdaderos protagonistas de esta carta: los neones.

Igual que a PSY con su Gangnam Style, los neones comenzaron como algo divertido y hasta estilizado (siempre y cuando utilizado mesuradamente), podías ver a las chicas y a los chicos en las calles “a la moda” con sus zapatillas o zapatos con suela fluorescente, blusas llamativas y tacones coloridos en tonos neones, carteras que definitivamente no pasarían desapercibidas ni en Albrook Mall en medio de Diciembre.

Pero al igual que el ejemplo del principio los neones se fueron de tendencia a epidemia, pronto esas mismas chicas que en un momento vestían un accesorio de neón se volvieron desquiciadas y salían de sus casas vestidas de malditos conos de tránsito, y lo sé, en la moda hay que arriesgarse, pero hay maneras y HAY MANERAS!

Hoy en día me es imposible ver una cosa más en tonos neones sin el riesgo de sufrir de un aneurisma. Y no piensen que esta carta es un simple “hate letter” o que quiero aprovechar esta ocasión para liberar mi ira contra NBC que canceló The New Normal y Smash (toda la comunidad gay esta de luto para su información), pues no, estoy aprovechando esta oportunidad para hacer un llamado de atención a la sociedad y para solucionar este problema de raíz así que comencemos una campaña social llamada #FuckNeones2013 , todos para uno y uno para todos!

A while ago a song that many loved & many hated surfaced the net, it was sung & danced by a Korean artist called PSY, it didn’t take long for the song to become a worldwide hit that was literally everywhere: newspapers, Internet, radio, television, even Madonna had PSY invited to her MSG concert (totes unchic Madonna).

It was then when the song also started to be hated by everyone (even my mom was sick & tired of it -just a sidenote, my mom doesn’t even know how to use Whatsapp.) I recall the willing to stab my own brain with an ice picker everytime I heard the song on the radio/television.

So in my intent to make this letter a little bit more interesting & to make myself sound more masterful I used Gangnam Style as an analogy of the real star of this Pen & Paper post: the neons.

Just as PSY with his Gangnam Style neons started off as a cute trend that was seen in boys & girls on the streets, it was actually kind of stylish (if used in a measured way). You could spot girls with their heels, blouses, bags & mini audiéres all in fluorescent tones; they looked like cute modern versions of the Party Monsters from the late 80s-early-90s New York club party scene.

But suddenly, following the same footsteps as PSY, neons went from trendy to fucking annoying, soon all those cute girls that sported neons as a human being morphed into beasts that resembled a traffic cone after it took the same medicine as Godzilla. While we all know fashion’s all about taking risks, there are some risks that’d better be left alone.

Nowadays it is practically impossible for me to see another person wearing something neon related without the fear of suffering a stroke & to take ends meet that’s pretty much my everyday story because everyone is still wearing the shit out of the fucking neons even though it is so 4 seasons ago.

And please don’t take this letter the wrong way, no, I’m not taking advantage of this opportunity to release all of the fury I have towards NBC for cancelling The New Normal & Smash (just FYI, the entire gay community is in mourning & pain) and no, I am not drunk while writing this, I am actually trying to do a good deed for the society, I am using this channel to spread a message of hope for the ones who know that fluorescent shades are so not cool, for that & all, #FuckNeons2013, we can do it!
