I'm gonna Dress You Up

Fashion is based in fantasy, in every girl's dream of becoming a princess & stealing Prince Charming's heart dressed in a beautiful robe made by the hands of true geniuses. Is no wonder then, why girls start living those dreams in the early stages of their lives playing with their Barbies, dressing them up, dolling them up & getting them ready for the perfect date with Ken.

Out of all the styles that canonize our rushed society, elegant & original will always perdure with ever lasting astonishment. Capturing the eyes of gazers that will cherish that moment when you walked through the streets in that beautiful blazer. 

And just like that 8-year-old girl that dreamed of being that Barbie, master couturiers have played with the pantomime realness of dressing up (search Viktor & Rolf FW 2010 show if you want to kill your curiosity). But this time it was the turn of a dear friend & local-very-talented designer to play with that fantasy.

Last July Fernanda Quiros presented her first collection to the panamanian market, pleasing most of us with a delightful mix of aboriginal juice with the hard-rock-statically-edge of modern architecture, a fresh melange de trois for fashion lovers in our country.

After 7 months of hard work & great efforts, Pura Jagua (the name of the collection) has been open to sale for the public, offering great clothes for great prices. Fernanda presented her baby at Espacio Vintage, a store that's become an open window for national designers who want to showcase their talent surrounded by great people. 

A collection that evoked the summery days in Panama (just like the one we enjoyed that Sunday morning, paired with the most perfect brunch by Naranja & Limon) will surely make it to a lot of closet of fashion lovers in Panama & why not, around the globe :)

Trend Report: Hard Deco

Hace rato que no hacia un post de los elaborados de los que me pasaba dias investigando para poder escribirles algo decente y digno de leer, que cosa que justamente el penúltimo día del año fue el día en que decidí hacerlo.

Y sinceramente, para mi ha sido justo y necesario hacer éste post en específico. En la última S/S 2012 temporada hubo una tendencia que me llamo mucho la atención (mucho es poco). Estoy seguro que muchos de ustedes han ya notado un cierto sentimiento de nostalgia en las colecciones presentadas mas o menos 8 temporadas pasadas (F/W 2009 si no me equivoco).

Desde entonces, hemos visto un tour de force tan ecléctico que una máquina del tiempo se queda pequeña al lado de él. Años 50, el MOD de los 60, y de vuelta a la los estilos liberales de la post-primera-guerra-mundial y el intermedio entre la Gran Depresión.

El Art Deco es una de esas tendencias artísticas que dejó marca en tanto aspectos sociales como culturales. El mismo comenzó en Paris en los años 20 y floreció mundialmente en los años 30. Se desarrolló en áreas como la arquitectura (Chrysler Building & el City Hall, ambos en New York) hasta en la cinematografía.

Como toda corriente artística, tiene sus origenes en otras corrientes precursoras, como el Neoclacisismo, Constructivismo, Cubismo y el Modernismo. Se origina principalmente en la simetría de las figuras geométricas y el rigor de culturas antiguas como la babilóniica, egipcia, azteca y asiria.

It’s been a long time since I wrote my last trend report. Coincidence that I’m writing this during the penultimate day of the 2011. It was necessary for me to report this trend cause I’ve seen so much walking down the runways & because of time I had no chance to write about it, it was kind of frustrating, to tell you the truth.

I couldn’t help but notice the nostalgic appeal some designers have been showing these past collections, starting more or less 8 seasons ago (specifically during F/W 2009). We have been part of a tour de force that makes a time machine look like an old microwave. Going from the ladylike 50’s, the MOD of the 60’s & back to the liberal style of the 20’s & 30’s, time called the fresh-air taken between the smoke of WW1 & WW2 & The Great Depression.

Art Deco was one of those artistic movements that made a social & cultural impact & here comes the approach that really made my eye pop (it has always), how fashion can make such a big impact in society.

Block my Colors

I've recently paired up with Felix B. Maduro (our equivalent to Selfridges or Macy's) to shoot they're social networks campaigns, there are gonna be 3 mini campaign per-month & this is our first one.

Since our country is a little bit isolated from the fashion scene (TG it's starting to make bigger steps) color blocking, trend that was for this summer, well... summer in Panama starts in January so Felix has brought the trend for our summer...

I will be showing you the next shoots we will have, we have a new one being shot this Friday, it's very teenage-summer which means Billabong & Roxy, very excited about it because it is not my usual things, so it's a challenge, let's just hope I will pull it of...

Retro Glam Night

My excitement was not normal that day, I was super eager to see what Leanne had for us, since every one was waiting for that day to come, for real! 

I started my day in class (I know, lame) presenting a final, as soon as I finished there I teletransported to Casco Viejo cause the girls of Espacio Vintage had my outfit (horror story, I didn't have anything to wear until 2 hours before the event). It was all a complete rush but it all paid off, I ended up mega happy with the photos' outcome & thankfully, have received great feedback, it was all great teamwork, looking forward to work more like I did this time. 

Since I like to share most of my work with you guys here is a behind-the-scenes-video of the photos that are posted below, the video was made & edited by my brother in law.

Continuing with the event... OMG I HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME! Despite all the wardrobe delays & traffic-jam-tantrums I had before getting there, it was a night to remember (sort of... I ended up consumed by vodka & champagne & forgot most of it ahhahah) The most important thing is that it really felt like the 50's were there, not in essence, but the vibe was really alive.

The stands were great, some already-known-names by this blog were there like: Alessandra Grau, who made a special capsule collection inspired by our aboriginal people, Greta Bayo, who made tees with images of great divas like Liz Taylor, M. Monroe, Audrey, etc. Espacio Vintage, Diablo Rosso, Sara Bassan, between others...

Miss Moss presents...

Work, work, work it's been the only word in my mind these past few days. Finals are not my allies, never ever! Thank God red wine & good music have been by my side to avoid the stress.

& TG my exams are almost over & there's something big to celebrate. I want to talk to you about Miss Moss Presents...

It's not a fashion event, well, sort of.. it's not a conventional fashion bazaar, it's more of a gala where you can go spend your money in great, luxurious things & drown yourself in champagne 'til you drop, quite an inviting scene right!?

Well, since the end of Glamavida, Leanne, one of the creators, found herself inspired & driven by many fashion events she attended in her native London, where the MOD & 50's inspired catwalks made her realize that it was her duty to come back to Panama & do something glamourous for us.

That's exactly what she did! That is how Miss Moss Presents... came to life. As I said, it is a themed gala that will be held at one of the most gorgeous maisons here in Panama, La Casa de la Municipalidad, the night of the 14th of December, not to sound cocky or snob-ish but, it IS the most exclusive event this ever done here in our country, not only because of the place or the theme (oh yes, 50's is the theme, how delightful huh?) but also because the attendants are the, let's put it this way, coolest people in the city...

If you are wondering about these pictures, I just felt so inspired by the clothes & music that I've researched (it is a must to go dressed 50's inspired) that I told Leanne I had to do something & these are that came out of that :)

Again, I would have been powerless with the guys that helped me with everything! They are the PIMP crew (it has nothing to do with the MTV show). PIMP goes for Producciones Independientes de Moda Panameña [Indie Fashion Productions from Panama, something like that], they rock! follow their Facebook fan page if you want to see more of their work.
